Welcome to Mrs. Ng's Kindergarten Class!

Our kindergarten class is full of eager students ready to learn reading, writing and mathematics.   School is a big, new step for us and we are having fun learning and adjusting to school life.

About Mrs. Ng:  I have been a teacher in the West Covina Unified School District for 4 years.  During my first three years in the district I taught Third Grade and a semester in Fourth Grade.  This year, I am enjoying learning with my kindergarten class.

Class Schedule:  Our class meets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:05 to 2:25.  Wednesday is our early day, so we meet at 9:00 to 12:20.

Our Daily Schedule:  Each day is spent learning the alphabet, letter sounds and reading using the Open Court reading program.  We are also learning how to write letters, words and sentences.  There are various activities, songs and games to do with the class that make learning fun.

Another important part of our day is spent cutting and pasting, coloring and drawing.  Students listen to my instructions while we are making our art projects.  Listening for directions is an important skill for kindergarten students to learn.

In mathematics we are learning patterns, number writing, counting, the calendar and ...........

Since this may be the first time some students have been in a formal school setting, we spend time learning how to get along, make friends, take care of school property and take care of our own school supplies.

Each day we take some time to play and run around in the play yard.

Yearly Reading Plan:  Our unit themes in reading are School, Shadows, Finding Friends, The Wind, Red, White, and Blue, By the Sea, Teamwork and Stick to It.

Homework Assignments:  Homework is an essential part of school.  The assignments that are sent home reinforce the learning that has gone on during the week.  Each Friday, students bring home their Homework Packet.  Each packet contains practice with language skills and math.  Homework is due the following Thursday, but may be turned in sooner if it is complete.
