Dear Science Students,
It is time to start thinking about Earth Day. We will be celebrating Earth Day at OLPH on April 14, 2011. In order to “create” Texas Our Texas in our gym, each student is being asked to “create” a life size model of a native Texas animal.   Your animal is due no later than April 13, 2011. This project will count as 2 test grades in the 4th nine weeks. Be creative. You may use any method. Make this a family week-end project. But most of all have fun.
Project requirements:
1 life-size model of a Texas animal
Must be out of recycled items.
1 Fact Card (Common Name, Scientific Name, 4 facts, picture of animal)
Due Date - No later than April 13, 2011

Example:
1. Scientific Name: Eurycea nana
2. Common Name: San Marcos SalmanderSee full size image
3. Facts:
1.  The slender-bodied San Marcos salamander is about 6 centimeters
(2.4 inches) long and displays a prominent gill fringe behind the head.
              2.  It is light brown above with a row of pale flecks on either side of the
              midline and yellowish white below.
              3.  The large eyes have a dark ring around the lens.
4.  Limbs are short and slender with four toes on the forefeet and five on the hind feet.  At first glance, it is similar to a lizard but lacks scales and claws.
5. The specific name nana is from the Greek nanos, meaning "dwarf."  This voiceless salamander is also earless.  It was listed as endangered on July 14, 1980.
