Welcome to a new school year! I hope you all had a safe and wonderful vacation. In the first trimester of the 2007-2008 school year: Primary students will be focusing on the study and review of simple vocabulary. Intermediate students will begin with a general review before continuing to study basic grammar rules. Middle School (Spanish) will begin the year with a review of vocabulary and grammar. After this they will study regular and irregular verbs. Middle school (Italian):Seventh grade will begin studying basic grammar as well as practicing a brief daily conversation. They will also be focusing on definite and indefinite articles and how to conjugate regular verbs. Middle school (Italian):After a general review, the 8th grade will begin studying some of the irregular verbs and their use in everyday conversations. They will also be reading stories in order to improve vocabulary and reading comprehension. Second Trimester- Tentative Goals. Kindergarten will continue practicing the prayer in Spanish. Vocabulary: months of the year, shapes and animals. Primary will continue practicing the prayer in Spanish. Vocabulary: rooms in the house, seasons, body parts and animals. Intermediate will continue practicing The Our Father in Spanish. Vocabulary: feelings, family members and expressions with "Tengo". Students in 5th grade will be working on adjectives and learning their use. Middle School(Spanish): During this second trimester the sixth grade will continue to study the irregular verb "IR"(To Go) in the 1st,2nd and 3rd person singular and the preceding pronoun. They will also learn "AR" verbs and how they are conjugated. The seventh and eighth graders will learn about the irregular verb "Gustar" and how to use it. They will practice using adjectives in sentences, (correctly modifying the gender of the nouns). They will read, translate and answer comprehension questions about Spanish stories. The seventh and eighth graders Italian classes will be focusing on the "ARE" verbs and conjugating them. They also will work with subject pronouns, adjectives, possessive adjectives and their uses in a sentence. They also will read, translate and answer questions about assigned stories. Culture: The 7th and 8th grade will be learning about various cities and regions in Italy as well as about well known Italians. April 2008 Tentative schedule for the third tri-mester. In the third tri-mester Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and primary students will continue practicing the vocabulary they have been learning previously (repetition is the key to memorization). Primary students will also learn new vocabulary such as: calendar terms, clothing and helpful Spanish phrases. Intermediate students will be working on common Spanish phrases, weather expressions and food. Fourth grade will also be copying short Spanish stories in their notebook in order to practice spelling. Fifth grade on the other hand, will be working on adjectives, gender and the number of a noun and practicing idiomatic expressions with "tengo". Middle School: Sixth grade students are going to learn about the verb IR (To go) and practicing expressions such as: Voy a estudiar (I am going to study), Voy a pintar (I am going to paint) and more. Seventh grade Spanish group is going to learn how to tell time and all the related expressions. These students will also be learning about Spanish speaking countries and they will do a presentation of a country of their choosing. Eighth grade Spanish group, will continue practicing the verb "Gustar" and some of the similar verbs such as: ENCANTAR, FASCINAR and others. These students will also be learning about direct and indirect object pronouns. Reading, writing and translation will also be part of the program for this trimester. Culture: Seventh and eighth grade students will be learning about different types of latin music. Middle school Italian. In the third trimester seventh grade students will continue the study of ARE, ERE and IRE verbs. Seventh grade will also be learning about telling time and general vocabulary. Culture: Roman history and parts of the city. Eighth grade students will be working on the verbs ESSERE and AVERE, their conjugation and uses. These students will also be learning about the verb PIACERE and indirect object pronouns. Culture: Major cities in Italy.
