![]() Student of the summer ![]() School begins on Monday, August 17. Mr. F has been busy getting his Hyperwoogie web site ready for the 2009-2010 school year. Stay tuned for updates. ![]() I look around at all the new and familiar faces and all the great people (young and old), and I hope this school year will be the best in my 13 years here . I consider the sorry state of affairs education finds itself in California, and I feel lucky to be working at Burroughs. ![]() I have been with my domestic partner, and love of my life, Marilyn, for over 4 years. She is from South Africa, and currently manages the Sherman Oaks branch of Rodeo Realty. My nephew Zack has been ranked as high as number 12 among professional male tennis players in the United States, and as high as 127 in the world (11-5-07). Zack's sister, Amy, married Chad on the island of Maui (9-3-05) and they now have two beautiful daughters, Kaia and Siena! I also have twin nieces, Annie and Maddie, and a nephew, Noah, their older brother...and they keep getting cuter, smarter and older. |
Growing Up By MR. F. I was born December 13, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. My parents, Herman (Chuck) and Shirlee Fleishman, were two terrific people who stayed in love for the entire 52 years they were married. Their parents were from Russia and Latvia, of the Jewish faith. I was an only child for 2-1/2 years. Then Gary (1945), Craig (1948), and Wendy (1950) showed up. In 1960, I graduated from Hamilton High School in West Los Angeles. My graduating class had such notable celebrities as an attorney for O.J. Simpson and one for Monica Lewinsky, a Good Morning America movie critic, and the founder of California Pizza Kitchen, as well as two teachers, Mrs. Elgart and I, who have worked at John Burroughs High School. I inherited a love for baseball from my father, who played softball every Sunday and would take me with him and even let me play from a very early age. I currently play and manage two hardball teams in a Men's Senior Baseball League every weekend. The league has had a number of ex-professionals (including 2-time Cy Young winner and World Series MVP, Bret Saberhagen, former MVP, Jose Canseco, and Scott Erickson), and uses quality fields such as Cal State L.A. and Valley College. Music has always been a vital part of my life. This passion is reflected in my lyrics for the song, "I Grew Up With Music", co-written with former Van Morrison bandmate, Jef Labes. Another of my lyrics was published in the book "Atalanta" (a tribute to female athletes, and yes, the title is spelled correctly!). The song is called "Rosie". I have been studying and practicing meditation and energy awareness for over 35 years. Meditation is a process for getting beyond the stress and noise that live in the chattering mind. I consider meditation my most valuable survival tool. I currently teach a meditation workshop in the San Fernando Valley. |
