Burroughs High seeks to create a learning
environment where students succeed academically, socially, and vocationally.
The result of our mission is to see that students at Burroughs High distinguish
themselves by their superior conduct and character. Students must know that
they are held to the highest standards not only in their academic pursuits, but
also on the athletic field as well as in their social interactions. Academic
integrity, appropriate speech, and punctuality are the established goals, which
our students must strive towards.
Teachers and staff will model appropriate speech for
students to emulate. Students will know how to properly address adults and
their peers in a manner that brings dignity, attention and respect.
Consequently, John Burroughs High will be known as a clean speech zone.
Teachers will focus on the tenets of academic
integrity and the pride that comes from authentic research and work. Students
will be instructed in how to conduct research, extrapolate information and
data, document authorship, and formulate opinions.
Our efforts will also focus on punctuality.
Homework, assignments, and projects must be completed and turned in on time.
Teachers will likewise, review, correct, and return assignments to students in
a timely fashion so as to provide feedback for continued learning. Punctuality
will also be required in daily attendance. Maintaining good attendance is
crucial for academic growth. Our goal is to improve our attendance by one percent. John Burroughs' students
are expected to be punctual, prepared and ready to learn everyday.
