Programs are on a first come first serve basis. Students must be 16 years old or in the 11th grade to participate. Programs count as Practical Art or Elective credits; students must complete required hours for grades and credits.

The John Burroughs High School career center is open daily, Monday thru Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, September through June.

HOW CAN ROP BENEFIT YOU

  2. You earn credits towards graduation.
  3. You will have a chance to gain confidence and self-esteem.
  4. You can work out in the commmunity in a paid or unpaid position.
  5. You learn resume writing and interviewing skills.
  6. You receive a certificate of completion.
  7. You receive hands-on training.
  8. You can go on field trips and have competition oppurtunities.

A few classes ROP offers Fall and Spring semesters:

RETAIL MARKETING CVE - 10 credits
This course is designed for students who are working for pay and want to earn credits and additional occupational instruction. Weekly related instruction is required and an individualized training plan developed by the instructor and the employer.

COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY - 5 credits
Students will experience 35mm camera techniques, film types, exposure instruments and techniques, critique skills, portfolio development, and the publication and exhibition of finished work.

BUSINESS OCCUPATIONS CVE - 10 credits
Classroom instruction will be combined with paid or unpaid on -the-job training. Minimum weekly-related instruction and working hours are required for a passing grade and credits. Locations: J. Burroughs HS Day: Tuesday Time: 3:30-6pm Instructor: S. Wolfe



FIRE SCIENCE - 5 credits
This course is designed for anybody who wants to be a fire fighter in the future. The only requirement is that you have to be 16-18 years old. GRAPHIC DESIGN - 5 credits
Graphic design career potentials are broad and options include: packaging, editorial design, publishing, illustration, and other related areas.
Location: Burbank HS Day(s): T, TH Time: 3:30-6:00pm Instructor: T. Smith


PHOTOSHOP - 2 1/2 credits
Students will become familiar with Adobe Photoshop in a hands-on computer class.

COSMETOLOGY - 10 credits per semester
Students will complete 1600 hours of training necessary to take the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examination.
Location: Moro Beauty College Glendale Day(s): T-F 1:00pm - 6:00pm Sat. all day Instructor: Mary Moro

REMEMBER...MANY ROP CLASSES ARE SUITABLE FOR ADULTS

CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT (ADULTS)
This is a 6 week class that trains for the Red Cross examination.
