ASB 2009-10

The Associated Student Body is the student government of John Burroughs High School. It is responsible for school dances, spirit weeks, blood drives, publicizing school events, representing Burroughs High at school board meetings, fundraising for the classes and serving as a liaison between sports teams and the clubs on campus. Most importantly the students in ASB are representatives of the entire student body of John Burroughs. The ASB meets every morning from 7:00-8:00 a.m. in room 1133 (telephone extension 63900).

ASB Officer Dutties

Each ASB officer has his/her own responsibility; with each different position comes different duties. The ASB functions as a team, and with just one person not fufilling his/ her duties, the entire will not function. The following information is a generalized description of the different responsibilities of each position. A detailed description of each officer/representative/commissioner may be found in the "Position Description" appendix of the ASB Constitution.

ASB President

  • Preside over ASB meeting
  • Represent the student body to the faculty and administration
  • Delegate reasonable duties
  • Uphold the ASB constitution

ASB Vice-President

  • Organize and oversee clubs
  • Oversee all committees dealing with school activities, student organizations, cultural awareness, and informal polls
  • Be familiar with the ASB Constitution and Parliamentary Procedure
  • Accept other reasonable responsibilities

ASB Secretary

  • Take accurate minutes at all meetings
  • Act as treasurer of ASB
  • Maintain account logs and files of all ASB expenditures

Student Board Representatives

  • Represent ASB at all Board of Education meetings
  • Stay in contact with all four elementary schools and report information at Board of Education meetings
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Education from student constituencies in all five schools

Class Presidents

  • Preside over class meetings
  • Represent the class to faculty and administration

Class Vice-Presidents

  • Oversee all class activities and class polls
  • Serve on committees as needed

Class Treasurers

  • Oversee class finances
  • Meet monthly with Student Body Auditor

Class Representatives

  • Serve on committees as needed
  • Accept other reasonable responsibilities

Commissioners

  • Oversee duties of specific commissionership
  • Serve on committees as needed
