I have been teaching at Monte Vista for the past 4 years.  During my time at Monte Vista I have had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade.  


Daily Class Schedule

7:40-805           Daily Oral Lang./Test Prep Material
8:05-9:45         Open Court Reading Program
9:45-10:05       Recess
10:05-10:50     Open Court (continued)
10:50-11:20     Writing
11:20-12:05      Lunch
12:05-1:00        Math
1:00-1:48          Clean Up/Dismissal

Wednesdays are minimum days. 
Students are dismissed at 12:50.

Homework Policy
Students are expected to complete homework Monday through Thursday.  Homework packets include Language Arts, Math, and Spelling activities.  Students are also expected to read for 20 minutes daily.  Students must log their reading in the Reading Log. The Reading Log requires book title, author, short summary, number of pages read, number of minutes read, and a parent signature.  Please ensure that homework is done daily and returned to school the next school day. 


Family Journal
Family Journals are a great way for families to become more involved in their child's school life.  Every Friday students write a short letter to their families inside of their Family Journals.  These letters let families know what went on at school for that week.  Students may write about some fun/exciting activities they did or they may write about important concepts that were learned.  Please read your child's Family Journal over the weekend and respond with a short letter back to your child.  This journal should be returned on Mondays. 


Special Projects
Throughout the year students will be required to complete several projects at the end of each unit.  These projects should be FUN, creative, and original.  Students are given several weeks to complete these projects.  Please make sure that you work with your child and encourage the importance of learning and reading.
